Why is there a trend  of more people being cremated compared to buried ?

not sure if i've asked this before or not so here goes, does anyone know where or what happened to the King Neptune statue at Darlington ? for those that don't know, the area where MacDonalds is was a Neptune Petrol station & before it (heading south) was the statue situated on a little grass park which i think had a creek next to it

They saved the statue when they built Maccas. It is now in Birkenhead at the Shell Bitumem depot on Elder Rd. here's a link to an article about it.

Yes, I saw this on one of the "Magazine" style Sunday lifestyle shows, it looked like a good way to spend a day. Upon you placing this link up I looked further into it, a 4 hour bike ride with 3 coffees and some culture comes in at $72. Per person. $89 for the craft beer and $122 for the roaming degustation.

on bakeries, surely ''The Orange Spot'' is the best, i think it is but that doesn't mean much but they win best pasty in Australia award on a frequent basis, i reckon Kane Cornes & family are in the more times than me, every time i've walked in, the Cornes' family is either walking out, walking in or already inside waiting to order, Graham spotted there every now & then too

Villis is good if your only option is the mass produced variety of baked good, but as far as bakeries go I could think of 10 bakeries I'd visit before them!

My brothers and I have always talked about hiring a bus and going on a 'bakery crawl'. Organise half a dozen bakeries to feed us their signature products. Reckon you could easily organise one around the Hills and Fleurieu.

TELETHON APPEALS 1970s

I was one of many teenagers that would door knock to raise money for the Telethon Appeals
I did one for Channel 9 with a group of school mates
I filled a collection tin , rode my push bike from the western suburbs to Tynte Street North Adelaide with the donations

The thrill was telling students and teachers I would be on C9 with my donation tin
Being live on TV gave gave me celebrity status of sorts at school
Back when I was living in the 70s , ego was not a dirty word
Meeting the TV personalities was a bit of  a thrill
It was my 2nd TV appearance , the other on ABC2 where I can be seen running onto the Adelaide Oval to shake Gary Sobers hand after he scored a ton in 1969

Years later I can appreciate that I was part of a worthy cause
Riding along on my pushbike up the Ovingham hill was certainly heavy work though

C9 were in Tynte Street North Adelaide from 1959-2015
In 2015 C9 moved operations to  Pirie Street
The Tynte Street building might be no more soon
There are plans to have apartments built there

Despite it being the site of some important TV history, the building(s) are pretty damn ugly, and that heritage building on the corner (an ex church??) deserves a new lease on life. Look forward to seeing what might potentially be built there.

That eatery, the Pancake Kitchen
13 Gilbert Place, Adelaide
A place I would end up often after nights out on the town
Those pancakes were scrumptous

Its now just over 50 years since its opening
That makes it one of the longest enduring eateries in Adelaide
Probably deserves iconic status

GOLF COURSES IN JEOparDY ?

Is it the end for the north eastern Valley View Golf Course ?
A decision is expected to be made in 2017 by the Port Adelaide/Enfield Council
If the Golf Course is removed it is likely to become a community recreation surround
There is no inkling towards using the space for housing
The Council has allocated about 1.5 million from 2012-2016 in funds for the course

Glanville Par 3 is on review as well

If these 2 golf courses become extinct it will be with some personal sadness
Ive played about 80% of all my lifetime golf games at Valley View and Glanville

Imagine driving or walking through Melbourne Street North Adelaide 1970s and seeing this house !
