He's in hospital with internal injuries and under intensive care, I think.
Really upsetting for him, his family and the West Adelaide FC community.
I'll trty to keep us updated.

He has a badly lacerated spleen. As of this morning he is still in extensive care. Doctors are waiting to make a decision on surgery.Aceman wrote:Any update on the young fella who was injured in this game?

i'd check with his family to make sure it is ok to post ''health updates''
i hope he recovers well & quickly & surely now they wont play anymore trial games at this time of the year, while i didn't see what or how it happened i believe playing matches this time of the year is asking for trouble, for a start the grounds would have no 'give' in them & would be rock hard (despite some rain earlier in the week)...without being cocky i asked the question before the match

Re: Trial Match in December
If he has a lacerated spleen it is more likely to have been caused by a knee in the back than any ground hardness. I would have thought that is a "point of impact" type of injury rather then a blunt force type if you know what I mean.
Hope the guy makes a speedy and complete recovery. Fairly miserable way to spend Christmas.

Re: Trial Match in December
It's good that the lad was taken to an emergency room promptly. It can be dangerous if not dealt with straight away, and it's one of the things trainers are taught to look for symptoms of after a collision, particularly if the player is "winded". It usually results from a frontal impact. The spleen is quite well protected by the rib cage at the back, but can be vulnerable to heavy frontal contact, such as a knee in the abdomen. Good to hear that the player concerned is out of intensive care. He should make a full recovery.

Only just caught up with this thread. Terrible news for the young lad, thoughts are with him.
