Finals - Week 1
Hawthorn v Geelong - Can't see the Catters taking it to the Hawks tonight. Got a feeling the Hawks will get hold of them and win easy. Hawks by 48 points.
Sydney v Fremantle - Not as tough as I thought to pick this one, Fremantle with no McPharlin or Johnson down back will need Dawson and Silvagni to hold Franklin and Tippett. Wont happen. Sydney by 35 points.
North v Essendon - This is a tough one, both teams up and down, the loss of Carlisle will hurt Essendons ability to hold Petrie, Brown and Goldstein from hitting the scoreboard. North by 17 points.
Port v Richmond - This one shapes as the match of the first week for mine. See preview in SA in the AFL board.

Must say as a neutral supporter, the Adelaide Oval game is the one Im most looking forward to. That place is going to go OFF.
Tonight is the other game I'm keen on, the two clubs have given us so many great contests in recent times and I reckon another one could be on the cards.

The Hawks looked fantastic in the second half.

Port won by 57 points. Margin flattened Richmond in the end.
With those guernseys, was a bit like watching Port thrash Glenelg in finals in the 70s and 80s.

Yes it was.
The jumper that Richmond wore today had enough yellow in it that in no way would it have clashed with the powers home jumper, wrong decision from the AFL.

if ever a team from the bottom half of the eight can do major damage in the finals, this is the team, i think if they get over Freo they'll play in the grand final

Completely agree .. Freo and Hawthorn standing in their road is a super tough proposition though, so not sure about the Granny. Give them more chance than any 5-8 team in recent memory, but a big ask to go all the way still.

Re: Finals - Week 1
I can't see Freo letting them run and run and run amok like today.
Richmond were done at qtr time. Hardwick's face said it all.
Last qtr was junk time and Port had put the cue in the rack.
The Sydney / Freo contest was a whole different beast to today's game.
Port are going to have to do it all again, and then some to get over Freo's stifling defense.
But today was footy as spectacle as it should be, at least for one side.
What Port were trying to do (successfully for the most part), gets fans in.
What footy has become in the main, puts me off mostly.
When you see blokes running past the ball carrier just to keep up with their man, rather than contest the ball, I just wonder what this game has become.

12 points off the Hawthorn margin, 11 off Sydney and 5 off North Melbourne.
Should have had a crack at X-Lotto!!

Freo were with the swans most of the day, as a top 4 side would be, this weeks game will be a completely different ball game.
