Port and Adelaide Crowds
There were 6,000 at Alberton.
I'd say 5,000 of those were Port supporters(?).
I also estimate only about 200+ Adelaide fans watch them each week (mums, dads & girlfriends crowd).
I'd say only about 1,000 to 1,500 Port fans watch them each week.
They're very much AFL Reserves teams, not SANFL teams.
The honourable loyal Magpie Booney excepted.

I still say give the Adelaide side time. For all intensive purposes the AFC SANFL side is a new Club, and it will take time to build up a following I think.
It would help if they could secure a home ground somewhere close to the CBD eventually, perhaps in the Adelaide parklands.

Why don't they just share Norwood Oval with the Redlegs?
I doubt very much Railways Oval is up to scratch!

I've always said they should share a base, cough up more $$ to the clubs, but then market their own home games to recoup some of the costs of being involved in the competition.

Woodville Oval would be convenient for them, perhaps not for the Eagles.
Richmond Oval also, Westies could do with a good ground hire fee

Why not Thebarton if they're going to have a home ground?

haven't the SAAFL got a long term lease on it ?
how about Wayville Showgrounds ? they used to play league footy there & the structures for crowds are already there & 3 forms of public transport go past there

If there is only going to be 2-3K, including opposition supporters, why not AAMI Stadium?

Re: Port and Adelaide Crowds
Surely the crowd figures for these two Reserves Showdowns show that essentially, the supporters of these clubs are lost to the SANFL. When you combine that with the drop-off of diehard SANFL fans we've witnessed this year, it doesn't look like a formula for success to me.

The problem is the model works for Port, but its not suited to the Crows. The Crows would be better served partnering with the likes of Modbury FC in the SANFL and playing home matches at Ridgehaven and supporting the various grades of the club and investing back into the SANFL at the same time.

I'd say over 5500 were Port fans R&B. I'd say the atmosphere was as dull as I can ever recall at an Alberton Oval match, in fact, this is the yard stick for lifeless encounters.
I will, once more, state that I think the AFC should have the same ( perhaps not top up players wise - this is clearly up for review ) system as Port Adelaide and given time to build they would become more a part of the SANFL than they are now. It is clear the AFC's SANFL wing is clearly for development and winning is indeed an outcome that will, as they say, take care of itself.
On the other hand I truly believe the likes of Summerton, Bruggemann, R.Young are out to win, play their best, win the match and be involved in the best team in the competition.
On the other hand, a lad ( his name escapes me ) was Prospect bound on Saturday to play for Norths 2's when he was summoned to Alberton as a top up to replace McKernan, a late withdrawl.

I think if the SANFL or whoever can demolish the current stands so it turns into a boutique stadium of about 10-12,000 seats, then certainly IMO the Crows could have Football Park as their home ground.
