Questions raised over illegal player negotiations
South Australian Cricket Association Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw, has today confirmed that Jamie Cox (pictured above, as a player) was this afternoon dismissed from his position as General Manager High Performance at SACA.
Cox’s dismissal is pursuant to the terms of his contract with SACA and is made on the basis that he failed to comply with the Association’s internal procedures and expectations in respect of his failure to disclose player recruitment negotiations carried out by him.
“On Tuesday 20 May Cricket Australia contacted SACA to advise that player recruitment activities undertaken on behalf of the Adelaide Strikers during the League’s embargo period were under investigation for possible contravention of the BBL Player Contracting and Remuneration Guidelines,” Bradshaw said.
“The Cricket Australia inquiry is still ongoing with SACA’s cooperation.
“However, the internal review has thus far revealed that Jamie has failed to comply with SACA’s own policies and expectations and it is for that reason that he has been dismissed.
“Whilst it is regrettable that it has been necessary to take this step, SACA has high expectations of its senior management, as well as a clearly defined Code of Conduct that must be adhered to.”
Cricket Australia released the following statement in response.
"Cricket Australia (CA) acknowledges the admissions made this evening by the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA).
"In doing so CA confirms that its integrity unit is investigating the SACA for potential breaches of CA regulations relating to the contracting of Big Bash League players ahead of BBL|04.
"The CA Integrity Unit will hold further meetings with SACA officials next week to further investigate the matter.
"No further comment will be provided until that time."
