Who is a player that has played for most clubs in the SANFL??
Hey guys,
Just working away today when I thought of Adam Cockshell going to the Port Magpies after stints with Norwood and South.
He is now on his 3rd club.
I was just thinking who would the player in SANFL history to have played at the most clubs in the comp ??
I could only get to 3 teams....any one play for more in the history ??
Cheers

off the top of my head these played with 3 SANFL clubs & both played league footy in a different competition
Eugene Warrior
Bob Keddie
Bret Backwell
did Jarrod Cotton play with Central, South & Norwood ?
off course Neil Kerley coached 5 clubs but only played with 3 of them
but i can't think of anyone that played with 4 clubs in the SANFL

The first goalmachine in SA footy, Anthony 'Bos' Daly played for Norwood, Torrens, West, North and South.
The only other player who I know has played with four or more clubs was another goalsneak, Bill Isaac:
Torrens:
1936: 11 games, 48 goals 28 behinds
1937: 2 games, 1.1
West:
1938: 13 games, 57.30
South:
1939: 15 games, 69.41
1940: 20 games, 90.45
1941: 8 games, 21 goals (no record of behinds in 1941)
North: (registered under North with the combined Norwood team)
1942: 8 games, 30 goals (no record of behinds)
1943: 15 games, 74 goals (no record of behinds)
1944: 15 games, 76.28 (6 matches with no record of behinds)
South:
1945: 10 games, 29.21 (1 match with no record of behinds)
Total:
117 games, 495 goals, 194 behinds (38 games without behind tally)

John Roberts (Woodville, Torrens, North)
Glynn Hewitt (West, Woodville, South)
Neil Craig (Norwood, Sturt, North)
Craig Parry (Port, South, Eagles)
Sean Disbury (Central, Norwood, Torrens)
Trevor Pierson (West, Woodville, Torrens)
Mark Soderstrom (North, Glenelg, Sturt)
Chad Norsworthy (Central, South, Sturt)
Frank Spiel (South, Sturt, Torrens)
Scott Lewis (West, Glenelg, Eagles)
Marcus Burdett (Port, Glenelg, South)
Mark Harwood (South, Glenelg, Port)
Brad Sheldrick (Norwood, Sturt, Eagles)

Re: Who is a player that has played for most clubs in the SANFL??
Is this list for league games or league clubs?
Trevor Grimwood played for three clubs, Norwood, Port Adelaide and West Adelaide, but only played league for Port and West. He played Reserves at Norwood.
Ken Eustice also played for West Adelaide, Central District and Glenelg.
We've had a couple of players at Norwood since 1907 who have played for 5 league clubs around Australia:
Haydn Bunton: Norwood, North Adelaide, Launceston, Swan Districts, Subiaco
Phil Carman: Norwood, Collingwood, Melbourne, Essendon, North Melbourne.

John Reedman played at
Hotham - 1887
North Adelaide - 1888 ( 2nd version )
South Adelaide - 1889 - 1898
North Adelaide - 1900 - 1907; 1909 (3rd version)
He captained them all. He also captained Hotham when they went top in Adelaide and Suburban Association in 1885 and 1886.
He also coached West Adelaide in 1908 (Unfortunately he was non playing coach but after winning them their first flag I don't think he would have really minded)
Even allowing for shorter seasons and some injuries you would think he played at least 200 league games.

Anthony J Bos Daly
Norwood 1893 -1898
South 1899
West Torrens 1900
West Adelaide 1901
North Adelaide 1902-1907, 1909, 1912
I reckon his nickname should be Flush [ 5 clubs ]
Bos once kicked 23 goals in a match
There is a photo of Bos shaking hands with Ken Farmer sometime after Ken equaled that record of 23 goals in a match against Torrens in 1940

20 years of league footy? That's a fair effort!

And from 1898-1902 he played for 5 different clubs
How is anyone ever going to replicate that again !

Given that from 1899 you had to play for the club to which you were residentially bound, Bos must have shifted house a lot.

He made a comeback around 1984 or 1985 with them, only played the one senior game, however. Played good football in the reserves, but couldn't replicate his best form at Woodville.
His decline after the 1982 season was incredible. Malcolm Blight sacked him not long (relatively speaking) into his reign and he was gone, after kicking something like 1/3 of Woodville's total goals in 1982 (104 for the season)

Re: Who is a player that has played for most clubs in the SANFL??
Thanks CK, I was unaware of that.
Pierson was a very talented player but he lacked a couple of qualities that some coaches like in players.
He is probably the most accurate shot for goal of any Westies player I've seen. I can remember when he started off in the seconds his goals to points ratio was outstanding.
