Greatful Dead
No not the band, but a task. We, the "greatful" recipients of these now "dead" music legends.
And one in the list below was from the band "Grateful Dead".
This may sound a bit morbid, but whatever.
Your task is to put together a 5 piece rock band (lead singer, guitar, keyboard, bass and drums) of past legends, who have now sadly departed this world for the next.
We'll see where this goes, but if it is too easy, we can separate into UK, USA and Aussie members. However, for the moment shall just have an "all in" effort.
I'll have a crack at some starting (non-exhaustive) names to prod you along;
SINGERS:
Jim Morrison, Michael Hutchence, Shirley Strachan, Lou Reed, JJ Cale, Darryl Cotton, Robin Gibb, Donna Sumner, Ronnie James Dio
Davy Jones, Whitney Houston, Roy Orbison, Michael Jackson, Jeff Healey, Mama Cass, Elvis, Marc Bolan, Bon Scott, Bob Marley,
Freddie Mercury, Marvin Gaye, Frank Zappa, Kurt Cobain, Ian Dury, Robert Palmer, Chrissie Amphlett
GUITARS:
Jimi Hendrix, Bob Welch, John Lennon, George Harrison, Bo Diddley, Syd Barrett, John Phillips, Joe Strummer, John Stewart,
BASS:
John Entwistle, Ean Evans, Phil Lynott,
DRUMS:
Keith Moon, John Bonham, Eric Carr, Paul Hester,
KEYBOARD:
Jon Lord, Richard Wright, Billy Powell, Merle Saunders, Billy Preston,
Well there are a few suggestions.......

What do you see them singing?
A medley of "All Along the Watchtower" seguing into "Are You Lonesome Tonight", finishing with "Boys are Back in Town" perhaps?

Re: Greatful Dead
Here's my "all rock A-Team" from heaven
Singer: Freddie Mercury QUEEN
Guitar: Jimi Hendrix EXPERIENCE
Bass: John Entwistle THE WHO
Drums: John Bonham LED ZEPPELIN
Keyboard: Jon Lord DEEP PURPLE
And the band will be called:
"Who's Experience Led the Purple Queen?"
The first single:
"All Along the Watchtower in the Black Night, My Generational Champions found a Stairway to Heaven ".
Probably just a tad too long to be a catchy title for the top 40.
I really must get out more.........

Re: Greatful Dead
I once had lunch with Michael Hutchence's brother, Rhett.
Now there is a very strange dude, to say the least.
I agree with you, Chambo, about the singer being Freddie Mercury, my knowledge of the rest of the band isn't good enough to choose.
Hutchence would be a shoo-in as singer for an Australian selection and similar if only women were voting

The list at the top was compiled from 2 web sites that list departed entertainers going back about 20-odd years.
By the law of averages, if your are a musician and longevity is your goal, become a bass player!

Re: Greatful Dead
Not quite rock- I started with Amy Winehouse because she had a beautiful voice and then tried to work out whose music I'd like to hear her sing. I reckon this group would be amazingly cool. Especially if the expanded and had the bird on Sax and miles Davis leading the horn section.
Amy Winehouse- vocals
Wes Montgomery- guitar
Charles Mingus- bass
Count Basie- piano
Baby Dodds- drums
