Collins to step down
Channel 10 has just reported that Andy Collins will step down at the end of the finals series.
Thanks for the last 6 years Collo. Turned our club from a dead set joke to a competitive unit. Hopefully the next coach can continue his great work.

Re: Collins to step down
Yep.
Over the past few Years I've read lots of rumours and starements about Collo, usually elsewhere from people who don't like him and have never met him.
Even now rumours are still flying around about his future. As usual, most of them are wrong.
He will be returning to Melbourne. His children sre now in the 11 to 13 age range and he feels he's been away too long? There's also no doubt that the stress of trying to improve a club desperately trying to stay afloat financially has taken its toll.
Hek's the 8th coach since I started at Westies. All of them are good men, but Collin's coaching acumen, with few resourlces, is outstanding.
His mean-minded and one-track critics can suit themselves, but Collins has transformed West from a basket case to a Grand Finalist and a Foxtel Cup winner.
I'll write more about his time at Westies when the dust settles, but just about all Bloods' fans will be thanking him firbwhat he has done.

Champion Bloke - Longest serving coach in probably the hardest era of the clubs existence >
Lets hope the new coach can capitalize on his work and not waste the massive strides he has made to take us from the laughing stock of SA football to a respected competitive outfit.
NOW we need to remedy our finances which are improving contrary to some of the rumors.

I doubt you can say a bloke who takes a side from low down or last on the ladder to a GF, cannot coach.
Micken did it with the Bays.
Carman did it with Sturt in the late 90s.
I think posterity will regard him fondly at Richmond.

I didn't know Andy personally but he has definitely been the best coach since Kerley.
He has made Westies a very competitive team every time we go onto the playing field.
He has also down an enormous amount of work off the field to help the footy club.
I was really hoping he would go on as I believed he was the best man for the job he is leaving the footy club in a very sound position on the field. He will be extremely hard to replace that's for sure
ANDY COLLINS YOU ARE A CLASS ACT

I really enjoy watching Andy Collins on the ABC TV games
He speaks his mind , makes some controversial comments at times , but I prefer these coaches to the cliche coaches
There was one game, where he was asked to comment as he walked of the ground.
At the tailend of his reply was something along the lines of:
" Lets hope it evens out this quarter and we get the same soft free kicks that they got in that quarter."

So where does West go from here? Potential candidates? Do they look outside of SA again? Can they afford to do so?

Advertise Australia wide i say, you never know who might be interested.howthewestwaswon wrote:So where does West go from here? Potential candidates? Do they look outside of SA again? Can they afford to do so?
As for Collins, he's a fantastic person to know, many don't know what he's really like and is ridiculed about his coaching style, but if you met the man, you would certainly be impressed on how he presents himself.
Although he's a Victorian by nature, he's always pushing West Adelaide and SANFL history into the players. He demands players to step up to the plate and wear the red and black jumper with pride.
He's done a fantastic job and i think there wouldn't be many coaches who could achieve what he's done for West with limited budgets compared to other clubs.

I'm definitely not on the coach selection committee, bayman.
There wouldn't be too many coaches who leave after six years to so many compliments from supporters and staff.
Totally agree with FB.

Not too many who have coached for 6 years, would get to leave on their own terms and timing either.

I have been onstaff at Westies for 30 odd years and I rate Collo in the top two coaches over that period - as a man he has my highest respect for his approachability and genuine care for those around the club.
I wish him well for his future and am sad that his time at the club has come to an end.

No worries, I think we can still survive with two and I'm too lazy to merge them just now.
