Best Pubs, Nightclubs, Discos and More
One of my youthful pastimes was being the quintessential night owl
Pubs, Discos, Concerts, Discos, Piano Bars and more were part of my life
LARGS PIER HOTEL
This was one of the first pubs I frequented when I was Living In The 70's
This pub attracted some of the best Australian bands
Some of the bands I saw were Cold Chisel, Scandal and The Keystone Angles [now the Angels]
Finished Matric
Became a Brickies Laborer for a part of this time
Nothing better than getting quarter pizzed , getting home at all hours , waking up at 6:00 am , and going to work
Yep, 3-4 hours sleep on average , get home, have tea, and I'm on the road again
Sometimes no sleep ....
Those were the daze .....
SETTLERS PUB
This is the Pub I mainly get to these days
The occasional punt, or occasional lunch , or drop in and catch up with some old punting buddies

ROSEWATER HOTEL
As long as I can remember the Rosewater Hotel has had excellent counter meals
The current set up with the salad bar, is a good eatery complex

Mutual respect in our younger daze Bayman
You would go to Lennies, I would go to the Bay Disco
Even though we were thinner in those daze, there was not enough room for the both of us at the one venue
Don't ask me why, but I met and danced with more women at the Bay Disco then anywhere else.
I never had anywhere near that success at Lennies
One of my favorite lines at the Bay Disco when I met a brunette with darkish skin was :
" Are you From Lebanon?"
" No, why?"
" It's just that you look like a Beirut girl."

Nothing like the place you remember.
I go there reasonably often as it is close to where I live.
When we moved down to Largs 25 years ago, the pub was basically as it was back in the 70s.
A bit run down and probably living off of its 70s reputation.
It is a fairly sylish upmarket joint now.
Restaurant is overpriced and probably trying to be too upmarket for the area.
You can't take peninsula out of the people!
And didn't Barnesy write a song about it a few years ago?
I remember the film clip of him standing somewhere on Willunga Hill (have no idea what relevance that had to the Pier!). Why wouldn't you do it from one of the pub balconies?
The Pier was also a local landmark for the shipping / boating community. Its 3 storey white walls stood out from everything else around.

Yes was there a little while ago
Its very very different these daze ,Barnsey, The Doc and Kerro would barely recognise the joint now
One of my favorite pastimes was to invite and sneak into Fort Glanville with girls that I would meet at the LP
I was a defacto tour guide !

My favorite venue in that area was Sams Disco.Southee wrote:Yep...same here....or down The Grand.bayman wrote:Lennies'

The nightclub used to be on the first floor on the complex on Wood Street next to Norwood Oval.
Some of the bouncers would be Norwood footballers , including Johnny Two Eight Elbows Wynne.
In its Hey Hey its Saturday Hey day it was a very very popular disco.
Would invariably be a long line up trying to get into the often packed out complex.
I would often watch the Redlegs play footy
Go for tea on the Parade
Have my disco outfit in the car to get snazzied up for a night at Sams Disco
Southee, Sams was not a yuppie night spot , it was a bit groovier that that , and a favored night club of mine
A place where you could be on equal terms with some the Norwood Footballers who would end up there !
Some of the Legs disclolites of the daze where players like John Wynne, Greg Turbill and Alby Menzel

BC
I'm tipping you preferred some of the brunettes in your chick magnet daze
The GH was open way way back in 1862
Several Adelaide Pubs have stood the test of time
South Adelaide had a meeting at the GH in 1876
That meeting was about a merger of 2 South teams of the times
South won the first South Australian premiership in the first competitive season of 1877
That meeting at the GH was probably a big enough reason why South won in 77, and indeed became a powerful club in the nineteenth century.
Southee, you were born in the wrong era !

Monday Nights
Did anyone used do this Double ?
Findon Hotel , where they used to have live bands
Then off to the Botanic Hotel until all hours
We used to call the Bot , Seymour Nurse, after that fine West Indian cricketer of the 1960s
A good deal of nurses used to frequent that night spot
Another favored line we had at the Bot was if the nurses knew Dr Zachary Smith !!!

The guy who ran them was a guy called Wayne
One of the nicest blokes you could ever meet
He was also on the buses trips to Balaklava races
He might still be doing both tours

JULES DISCO
Did anyone frequent the Jules disco in Hindley Street ?
I was there on the opening night
My form that night read, 1 start 1 win ....
It was a real discoey night club, the lighting was bright and dazzling and on that opening night the place was a sparkling gleaming new complex
DESERT SANDS
Was a coffee shop across the road from Jules , on a first floor
Seemed a bit of a trad to invite chicks for a coffee across the road , well I needed something to keep me up all night ...
The owner of DS back in those days was an Egyptian man by the name of Falsi.
Falsi was lean , much older than us , an absolute scream , and I spent many late nights conversing with the great man.
If there was a bit of glamour about, I on a few occasions would suddenly be one of Falsi's waiters!
THE BLACK ROSE
That man Falsi ends up running a late night spot called the Black Rose
BR was a piano bar type set up in Hindley street , just west of Jules
It was a great finishing up place mid week and weekends
I've come out of that place, and b4 I knew it , would be home and getting ready for work
