Terrific game. How good are some of the young players?
Grigg, Wingard, Crouch were all great and Boak, Hartlett, Dangerfield and others are just class.
Nice to see Johnston lining up for goal, knowing he'll likely kick it.
The form of some of Adelaide's senior players is worrying. Thompson just doesn't look right at all, Van Berlo really struggles, Jacobs was poor.
Rory Laird has been wonderful this season, but had a shocker today.

Re: Showdown XXXV
That was a ripping contest that almost gets me excited about afl.
So much ebbing and flowing in the game.
Reckon we need to rush Monfries into the Aussie Test side, as that leg break for a goal bent back sideways 5 metres.
In the slow mo, it pitched about 2 metres from the point post.
I've never seen a ball moving forward bend so far sideways.
And Wingard is a star. Wonder where he learnt his early footy?

They commented during the game that Barrie Robran reckons that Johnston is the best kick for goal he has ever seen.
Fairly high praise that.

Bayman posted the same a few weeks ago on this site about Johnston
Wingard is also a very very good kick for goal
His accuracy reminds me of Roger Woodcock

I find the interest in Robrans comments well, interesting. Just because he is an all time great doesn't make him a great judge, does it?
Anyway, back to the game.
Wingard, Boak, Trengove and Moore were very good in the last 15 minutes. Boaks clearance work in the middle was truly special, but watch closely (if you see it again) and the last two centre breaks were Trengove tapping to Boak, but while this was happening Moore was body-on-body with Dangerfield making sure Adelaides best clearance player was kept out of the contest. Fantastic team play.
Wingard, I just cant speak highly enough of this kid. Even in the presser after the game he said "Nah, wasn't nervous really. Just needed to go through my routine", when asked about lining up for the last goal.Thats ice cool that is.
Crouch is going to be some player to. He has that ability to stand still and watch the game move past him / onfold while everyone else gets flustered he just remains calm and executes his skills. Very cool customer too.

Did you take notice of the Port peoples faces as you left? ( If you go to the football, of course )
With Carlton losing to Fremantle, that puts us two games clear in 8th.

I didn't abuse or swear at anyone on my way out, so I'll not consider myself part of that.
Anywho, only people with their head in the sand think it's only other clubs with foul mouthed abusive supporters.
One lucky bounce, I'll take that one and in a tight game the very first goal of the game was nearly Robbie Grays, bar a shocking bounce so one good one, one bad one.
Poor decisions? I assume you are referring to Johnston taking a shot on the run from 50 when he should have passed to a free Dangerfield or are you talking about Otten handballing back into traffic and giving the ball up just as Adelaide looked to be going forward? If yes, correct. Two very bad decisions.
Grigg and Crouch both look promising indeed.
How's the skipper going down there?

Whoever kicked it to him got a bounce that was simular to Monfries. The Crow went to pick it up and it bounced at a stupid angle straight into a Port players hands.

I just watched it again.( Might watch the last 2 minutes again shortly - WTF was Johnston doing? 2:03 to go and 8 points in front and he butchers it! ) The ball bounced near the 50 line where Boak collected it, handballed to Wines who handballed to Monfries who centred it to Wingard! I think 3 possesions, mark and kick at goal after the bounce cancels out any "lucky" bounce.

Had the lucky bounce not occured than the ball would have been on centre wing and not in Wingards hands
Dont think I will ever watch that last 2 minutes again. Johnston is such a good kick for goal normally so thats why he had a ping I guess.

I hope it's working .....and I saw one like Monfries. Grays at the start of the game. Some of the ball went over the line and it turned on itself and bounced back out of the goals!
I'm pretty sure Gus knew what he was doing, anyway.
