It is just the dumbest rule ever invented.
Although, the new 'taking the legs out from a standing player' is a line ball close second.
The fact that they keep inventing rules for what dumb @rse purpose? Or reinventing 'interpretations' for other dumb @rse purposes, does more to kill the spectacle of the game than what the dumb-@rse rules are intended to police.
Does King Andy from his lofty tower not see this?
......the name dumb @rse seems appropriate in this context too!

I just find it easier to blame him for everything.
He's the boss and cannot hide, as much as he seems to want to.
When this drugs thing goes pear-shaped, you watch him go run and hide and blame everwhere except what he has presided over.
If you want to look to a just and fair system of arbitration in all or any systems around the country, I am 100% certain they will not use the AFL as the example of excellence.
Rock on King Andy!

Who does that peanut #3 umpire think he is, he must be part and parcel of the rules committee as he is also unsure of how the game is played and interpreted.
here is one thing that gives me the willys with umps is the running to far and marking.
Is it not the same distance for a mark that is allowed to be able to run with the ball? maybe the TV shows it different.

Ah, good point, tp, that's something I've always thought. I reckon players run more than 15 metres with the ball many times a game without being penalised. Not saying they should, but it's a rule that's ignored.

R&B, maybe we should bring it up to an umpires meeting at AFL house, would be interesting to see them tighten up on that rule once every 6 weeks

An athlete 1.8m tall running at any speed must be striding 1.5-2.0m each step. At a conservative estimate I would say 10 "steps" is 15m and in some cases 8 "steps" could be 15m.
One of those rules that is rarely enforced often enough IMO.
