ABC
With a question mark still hanging over coverage of the SANFL by the ABC this forum could not be more timely. Does anyone know the state of play as I speak or are we still at the mercy of the Sydney boffins?

And looks like footy in Tasmania is set to go commercial...

Re: ABC
Might have to look at that here. No SANFL footy on tv would be like a dagger in the heart especially for the likes of me who either captures or purchases the action and preserves it for posterity. It has been continuous ever since the 1964 gf between South and Port and the SANFL brains trust must have a plan B and not just rely on the ABC.

Re: ABC
according to the 5AN news today during the afternoon that negotiations are all but done for the SANFL to pay more to the ABCTV for coverage over the next couple of years, there was a clip from Darren Chandler saying that he understood the ABC's position & the ABC understood how the South Australian public is very much interested in South Australian football & the SANFL competition, he further stated that yes they're going to be putting more money in but until it is finalized he wont release how much but will when the final contract is

A deal has been struck for 2012 with a hope of securing 2013 as well, beyond that who knows.

As part of the new deal, the ANZAC Day game will no longer be televised

Interesting to read Xenophon blaming the cost of setting up ABC News 24.Brucetiki wrote:As part of the new deal, the ANZAC Day game will no longer be televised
Why would you watch SANFL coverage when you can enjoy the bubbly personality of Virginia Trioli.

Re: ABC
I know tv guides are printed well in advance of the scheduled programming but like long range weather forecasts I am always sceptical which begs the question:
What are we going to see on ABC1 next Saturday afternoon? Will it be Elizabeth Taylor in "The Taming Of The Shrew" or South and West at Hickinbotham Oval?

Re: ABC
Why not? I thought a "deal" had been struck for 2012. Does the SANFL have to fork up an extra 70K for a reduced coverage(no Anzac day game either)?Millsy wrote:No tv coverage for round 1.

ABC-TV will not be doing either Round 1 game, due to neither match being in the afternoon timeslot.

Surely it does not have to be a live broadcast?
Why can't they record Friday night's game and put it on TV on Saturday afternoon?? Oh wait, they need more money to do that...

One reason that comes to mind immediately is the commercial viability of playing a replay that would start 16 hours after the result is already known.

Re: ABC
Better some football than no football IMO. All Saturday afternoon couch potatoes will now have their remote controls permanently fixed to Channel 7.

There's no AFL on Saturday afternoon either though.

Something I didn't know. So why can't we capitalise on this chance to be the only footy broadcast on free-to-air TV?

Precisely! I presume the ABC would have televised a day game so I am prepared to cut them some slack there but South in particular want to play under the stars for the monetary gain. However, the SANFL has missed a golden opportunity to showcase its product with no opposition unless of course Thebarton is deferred. Then again, isthat too late for the ABC?
