Depends which Gray you mean - he wont be in before Robbie Gray, but then agsin they are fairly different types of players who play different roles.Redlegsrock wrote:Pretty sure white will be in afl side instead of gray
Robbie Gray if fit is a definite first 18 starter, perhaps on a forward flank or pocket. Very handy opportunist.
White is more of the pacy wingman type.

Yes. When I posted the first team and looked at my notes, I saw I had Gray written down and thought 'no way he won't be in the 1's".FOOTYfollower wrote:

FF, you have Raikiwasa playing, but I'd presume he only plays if there's a spot available after all listed players are selected first.
Therefore, Flynn would have to play??

The AFL listed players are not assured a league game, or do you know something more?

Re: Port in SANFL 2014
I don't know the answer, but I have always presumed no-one except the 'marqee' player could play until all listed players were selected.
Surely that was the whole point of this exercise, to give their listed players a suitable competition.
Sorry, Boony, but I don't trust Port ever keeping to the spirit of any agreement they enter into and I'm just waiting to see what swifty they pull to give Summerton and Raikiwasa a game.

Re: Port in SANFL 2014
Well, R&B, I would have thought the PAFC wanted to maintain the Port Magpies reserves structure was due to the fact, in part, that not all AFL listed players are ready for SANFL league level upon being drafted.
This then would mean players like Summerton, Raikiwasa and co. would continue to play league football. This would mean players are not gifted league games, as the Adelaide side will have to do. The proposed structure the PAFC were denied was one that upheld the integrity of the comp more than the current model.
From what I know, AFL listed players are not automatic SANFL league selections.

I'd also like to know thw rules about playing AFL players in that team while non-AFL players are selected first.
That surely is against the whole spirit of the agreement.
The Crows don't have that option.
Give Port an inch..........

Re: Port in SANFL 2014
So now you want AFL players gifted a league game?
R&B, Port have reserves and U18's in the SANFL next year. The U18's will be gone in 2015 from the SANFL, the reserves / academy team may play in amateur ranks or, what I think will happen is the SANFL clubs realise the whole "top up player" system for Adelaide is a debacle and the whole system is revisited.
If they'd only taken the time to do it right the first time....

"Gifted a league game'?
mate, the whole set-up was put in place to give AFL players a 'proper' competition to play in.
Now you're claiming the SANFL Reserves is a proper comp.
The idea was for all listed players to play in the same team.

It's not so much a "proper" comp but, in the main, all players playing under the same system. Playing structures etc.
Port should have given Adelaide half of our zones to recruit reserves/top up players from and both sides had U18's, reserves and league in the SANFL.
How f**** easy was that?

You'll rightly have no zones in 12 months.

Re: Port in SANFL 2014
In some ways, it will be an unlimited zone structure.
So, we will be able to draft/recruit a kid from Ireland to play with the Magpies if we want. Or one of the best 18 year olds playing TAC Cup. Or an AFL premiership ruckman who has a sore knee.
Who knows, someone might take our zones one day and then give it back to us. No questions asked.

Well I think Hinkley can't have it both ways.Booney wrote:Well, R&B, I would have thought the PAFC wanted to maintain the Port Magpies reserves structure was due to the fact, in part, that not all AFL listed players are ready for SANFL league level upon being drafted.

Either he wants his draftees and fringe afl players to play in the one sanfl league team or he doesn't.
I agree they are not all ready to play sanfl league upon drafting, but in this vexed model now thrust upon us, Port just can't have its cake and eat it too.
After 2014 season, they will just have to be satisfied with gifting players games.
And it disappoints me that this is what we have to suck up now - a competition with less integrity all round.
And I cannot agree that Port's preferred model was better than this one as far as the 'competition integrity' line is pushed.

Re: Port in SANFL 2014
Both AFL clubs expressed the desire to have players playing under the one system, one structure, one banner.
The PAFC felt to best maintain the links with the local community as well as the wider community in regional zones, was to keep recruting zones etc.
In fact, a year on and people haven't worked out whats going on.....they obviously haven't been paying attention.
